Crisis Care Support: GCASA role
  • In-person and/or phone response
  • Early crisis intervention (emotional and psychological support)
  • Practical assistance to ensure safety
  • Arrange accommodation, transport, provision of essential material assistance such as a safe phone, food, clothing, assistance to access medical assistance or prescription medication
  • Risk assessment and safety planning
  • Advocacy and collaboration with partner services
  • Referral for further brief or short-term or long-term counselling

GCASA role includes the provision to clients of:

  • Support through the legal and medical processes following sexual assault
  • Information and support to enable informed decision-making
  • Psychological first aid and psychoeducation on trauma reactions
  • Risk assessment and safety planning
  • Advocacy and liaison with partner services
Sexual Assault Afterhours Assistance

24/7 Sexual Assault Crisis Care Support

  • Available across the whole Gippsland region from the Bunyip River to the border
  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 1800 806 292
  • Supporting those who have experienced a recent incident of sexual assault
  • Can work alongside Victoria Police Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) and Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM)

Early Crisis Intervention Aims to Assist Individuals to:
  • Understand their natural crisis reactions following trauma
  • Promote their natural recovery following trauma
  • Reconnect with their internal strengths and sense of personal power and control in life
  • Access resources to support safety
  • Link into further crisis support as appropriate
